This years Wighto Quiz Walk was in Niton starting from the ‘Buddle Inn’. The number of teams were down on previous years possibly the weather or the start of the European football were to blame? Anyway 10 teams booked in at pleasant location of the Buddle Inn. It was 29 years ago I devised the first event of this kind, which was a cross between an orienteering course and the quiz course of what we have today, It had 3 courses Long 4.5m, Medium 3m and Short 2 miles long with ringed & passing clues provided but I must say not quite as devious as in recent years, I named the event ‘Buddle Inn Bounce’ in short BIB event in which the loosing team received a bib. To my knowledge most competitors ended the evening in Mike Wadsworth cottage ‘Bass Rock’ who was at the time the chairman of ‘Wighto for a barbecue. I must admit since Pete Bartlett joined up with me in compiling the clues for the last 24 years has added quality & more spice to the event! The only clue to bamboozle you all was the ‘What’s 2 on their own and the answer was Snail & Locust’ this was a mural on one of the school buildings in the playground.
