• WIGHTO Update & Annual General Meeting 2021

    To all Wight Orienteers members.

No doubt you have been wondering if & when we’ll be orienteering on the Island again.

The covid pandemic has effected many small clubs like ours & the Wighto committee have been unable to stage our usual meetings & plan events since the start of the pandemic last spring. Now that restrictions are being lifted, we can at last move forward, but firstly we must have an AGM to get things started!

I have arranged this year’s AGM to take place at:

    The Sun Inn, Calbourne
    Monday 5th July
    Start at 7:30pm
    Please attend

Wighto has been run by a small band of dedicated enthusiastic orienteers for many years, but we need some ‘new blood’ with fresh idea’s & motivation to secure the clubs future. If you have enjoyed orienteering on the Island & wish for it to continue then I urge you to attend this year’s AGM. The present ‘ageing’ committee members cannot go on indefinitely but would be able give help & guidance to anyone wanting to be involved with the running of the club.

As the club has been dormant for the last 12 months the AGM itself should not take very long but afterwards the newly elected committee will be able to discuss & plan the event diary for the rest of this year.

It was hoped that an event could be staged in late July, early August but realistically I can’t see the first event happening until the beginning of September. In the meantime Glyn & Sue have been preparing a quiz walk around Golden Hill Fort & hope to have it ready for August using the same format as the one they did last year.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
