The New Forest Challenge is a navigational event put on every year by LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) Wessex. The courses on offer are a lot longer than the traditional courses we often see at orienteering events. In the case of The New Forest Challenge you have a choice of walking or running a 19 mile route or marathon (26.2 miles). There are checkpoints to visit with the added bonus of light refreshments, sweets, chocolate and biscuits.
This year’s event took place on Sunday 28th February. 3 members of Wight Orienteers, together with 2 friends from West Wight Road Runners took part.
Sue and Glyn Williams, together with Christine Armstrong and Graham Maddison, took on the 19 mile walk. Dan Williams ran the marathon course a mere 2 weeks after running the Punchbowl 30 Miles.
