Wight Orienteers Chairman’s Report 2021

Further to the email you all received last month I am pleased to say that the club had its AGM as planned on the 5th July 2021 at the Sun Inn Calbourne.
Five committee members where present with apologies from Iris Fay [who unfortunately is no longer able to offer her help] & Chris Pritchett who remains as mapping coordinator. Thanks to Iris for many years of promoting club events & getting results & publications with the local papers. We need a replacement!!!
Members present were re-instated as follows:
Chairman. Peter Bartlett
Secretary. Sue Williams
Treasurer. Brian Bailey
Fixture Administrator. Glyn Williams
Event Registration. Eileen Hollingshed
As the club has been dormant for the last 15 months, the AGM was as expected very short! Brian had recruited some new membership in supplying POC maps free of charge & although no monies where taken last year, club funds where healthy, so this is how we intend to proceed.
GOLDEN HILL FORT from 21st August to 18th September
Glyn & Sue have planned a quiz walk which will start & finish at Golden Hill Fort near Freshwater & will be the same format as the walk they did last summer. You should collect your maps & clue sheets at any time or day between 8.00am & 6.00pm, between the dates shown, from their porch at :1 Trevanions Way, Totland. When you’ve completed the walk put your answers through their letter box with any donations you would like to make. Results will be posted on line shortly after the 18th of September. The walk is free of charge but donation will be forwarded to the hospice. Good luck with the walk and have fun!
ST CATHERINES DOWN on Sunday the 26th September
The first orienteering event will be where we left off, on Chris’s new map of St Catherines Down. Make a note in your diaries or on your calendar’s NOW!
Parking will be at the view point car park at Blackgang from 10.00am til noon. This is a cracking area for orienteering with spectacular views. It attracted many new faces & our members enjoyed the new experience, so we are hoping for a good turnout. Brian Bailey & myself will be the planners & will endeavour to promote the event were we can. The format for the event will be decided closer to the time but will probably be another score. If you are intending to attend please consider introducing a friend. To this end we have decided that the event will be free of charge to all!! There will be no registration as usual, but you will have to fill in an insurance form before you start. All will be made clearer on the day, but if you have any queries then please contact me on 531282 or Brian on 403963 & we will look forward to seeing you on the day.
I can’t emphasis enough how important it is that we achieve high participation at this event but more important that we recruit more assistance, however small, from our members. Any assistance offered could make all the difference to the future of Wighto, so please consider what you could do to help.
We would like to have planned more events but the committee members will meet up again after this event & decide whether it’s viable to do so. We all want to continue orienteering on the island. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!
